three paintings about VOICE
(six paintings if you choose to get the birds mouthing off )
from the beginning of time, Women have been trained to deaden their instincts, agency, and intuition all in the favor of male comfort. The “home” is a chimera, designed by men, a lesser kingdom that men strategized so that women might feel some control, a placating a beast: a prize only when a woman chooses it for real.
a Patriarchal society wants women silent and grateful and sacrificial.
We are spooned “security” and we forfeit our agency.
The luna moth symbolizes the Ideal Woman in a man’s world: mouthless: unable to eat, unable to about. Stomachless: unable to sustain itself. Alive solely to breed, and then die.
The crow symbolizes the opposite: a cunning omnivore who is loud as hell. Sharp, clever, disruptive. This is my ideal woman.
The human woman has to decide who she will listen to.
“The Cacophony of Allies”: oil on 12 x 16 board
“Say the Words”: oil on 5x7 oval canvas
“Ad Astra” 16 inch diameter canvas
“Birds Mouthing Off” : acrylic and colored pencil on paper and cardboard
